and I have enrolled in the Ashland Citizens' Police Academy. This is a 10 week course designed to teach us about how our local police department works. Wednesday night was week 3. Week 1 was mostly introduction and we got to tour the police station, week 2 was a talk from a local assistant district attorney on the legal system, and week 3 was 2 talks: one from a representative from the state crime lab on forensics and one from two local police officers on drug enforcement. I found the talk on drug enforcement very interesting. Besides learning a lot of scary statistics, they passed around evidence (sealed in bags) from closed cases so we actually got to see what marijuana, cocaine, crack, and heroin looks like.
