About Back from Vacation

Previous Entry Back from Vacation Jul. 29th, 2007 @ 05:51 pm Next Entry
reveilles and I just got back from 9 days in California. Here's the quick recap:
  • July 20-July 22:
    • Spent in Anaheim with dasubergeek and his family so we could become godparents to his daughter.
  • July 23:
    • We drove from Anaheim to Mountain View. reveilles drove the whole way (almost 400 miles) so I could read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This allowed reveilles to spend the next few days reading it without interruption.
    • We went out to dinner at the Los Gatos Brewing Company. The restaurant was as good as I remembered from my time in CA in 2003 and 2004.
  • July 24:
    • We want hiking at Pinnacles National Monument. We did the High Peaks—Balconies Cave Loop, a 8.4 mile loop with 1,540 feet in elevation gain. We brought flashlights so we were able to go through Balconies Cave.
    • We went out to dinner at Sono Sushi and had fun eating off of their sushi boats.
  • July 25:
    • A more relaxing day; we went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. We spent some time at the Dana Street Roasting Co. reading various books. We met up with friends for dinner and went back to their house to play board games.
  • July 26:
  • July 27:
  • July 28:
    • We went to the Computer History Museum and went to see Hairspray. Dinner was at the Tied House.
    • We left CA on a red eye and arrived back in MA very tired on July 29.
Books read:
  • Fugitives of Chaos by John C. Wright (finished on the trip)
  • The Involuntary Human by David Gerrold
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling
  • A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore
  • Heechee Rendezvous by Frederik Pohl (started, but not yet finished)
Current Mood: tiredtired

Pinnacles is really nice. It can get really hot in the summer, though. We had a nice day; overcast in the low 90s. The last time I was there (in 2003) it was sunny and 100.
