Girl Genius... - Jamieson Cobleigh

About Girl Genius...

Previous Entry Girl Genius... Apr. 18th, 2005 @ 10:31 am Next Entry
Girl Genius, one of the comic books I have read for several years, is moving from a quarterly format to an online format with collections printed yearly. Girl Genius is written by Phil and Kaja Foglio and Phil was nominated for a 2005 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards for his work as writer and artist on Girl Genius.

Girl Genius is a Gaslamp Fantasy with Adventure, Romance, and Mad Science. The story opens as Agatha Clay, a student and Transylvania Polygnostic University, is having a really bad day. By the end of the first 10 issues, she ends up on an airship, meets a talking cat, builds some steam-powered robots, and falls in love.

If you have never read the comic book, you can start at the beginning of the story. If you have read the comic book, the story picks up where issue #13 left off. New pages are due out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The comic is rated Teen, for cartoon violence and the sight of Victorian Undergarments.

That sounds correct. It was either #11 or #12, and I don't think you read #12, so it must be #11.

The first part of #1 is online. The last part of #13 is online. The first part of what would have #14 is online. #12 and the beginning of #13 are not online.

#11) Agatha and Krosp escape from Castle Wulfenbach in an airship that was damaged (in #10) by Othar Trygvassen. They crash land in a forest and find a small kid, Balthazar, who is with Master Payne's Circus of Adventure. They take Balthazar back to the circus and get introduced to many of the people there. One of these people is Zeetha who is from the lost city of Skifander, which Agatha has heard of, but has no idea where it is. Zeetha wants to get home but cannot since no one knows where Skifander is. Master Payne decided it would be dangerous for Agatha to travel with them since she escaped from Wulfenbach and he doesn't want Wulfenbach coming after them. As Agatha and Krosp start to leave the circus gets attacked by a large clank and it looks like Agatha gets killed by a laser beam from the clank.

#12) Opens with a flashback of Baron Wulfenback in bed with Lucrezia Monkfish. Lucrezia decided to renounce her father's work and join up with the good guys, Bill and Barry Heterodyne. Baron Wulfenback is not happy with this and Lucrezia gives the Baron a drink, which puts him to sleep so she can leave him. End of flashback. Baron Wulfenback sends his son, Gil, and Bangladesh DuPree out to look for Agatha now that he knows she is a spark and a Heterodyne. Gil and DuPree find the circus and the circus folks show them a burned body and tell them that it is Agatha. Gil and DuPree leave and take the body back to Castle Wulfenback. At this point, we learn that the clank did not kill Agatha in #11, but another of the circus performers, Olga, and that Agatha has been disguised as Olga the whole time. As #12 ends, Zeetha decides that Agatha needs to learn to defend herself and promises to start training Agatha the next day.

#13) Gil and DuPree show the burned body to the Baron. He brings in the Jager-generals to talk to them. The look at the body and realize that it is not Agatha's body, but don't tell the Baron this information. The first day of training consists of beating up Agatha until Agatha cannot move to learn how tough Agatha is. Later that day, Agatha is given the task of fixing what looks like a large pipe organ to keep her busy and out of the way of the other members of the circus. Before she goes to sleep, one of the circus performers comes back with a horse he found wandering around a campsite that had been attacked by something. A few hours later, it is the middle of the night and one of the other performers, Lars, is tending the fire, as the horse shows up.

The online webpage starts with the end of #13 when the horse wanders up to Lars.
