reveilles and I went out for breakfast this morning to the North Hadley Sugar Shack. They are open for breakfast from mid February until early May. Their menu is very simple: pancakes, waffles, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. The main point of their menu is to provide a delivery mechanism for the consumption of their homemade maple syrup.

I had two buttermilk pancakes and a hot chocolate. reveilles had two pieces of French toast, one egg, and a hot chocolate. We also bought a donut with maple cream frosting to go. The total bill (before tip) came up to just over $10.00. For the price, I was surprised at the quality of the food. The pancakes I had were fluffy on the inside, but crisp on the outside, just the way I like them. They are a little out of the way, but worth the trip for a good but inexpensive breakfast

Before you discontinued your cable TV, did you and reveilles ever watch a show on Food Network called $40 a Day? I thought of that show when I was reading this....

I have seen one episode of $40 a Day. The concept seemed interesting, but I wasn't too impressed with the episode I saw. She was in Las Vegas, a town I really dislike, so I had no interest in seeing the restaurants she chose. Plus, Las Vegas has lots of all you can eat buffets, so it didn't seem like too much of a challenge. Besides, if I'm going to watch a show on Food Network, I'd rather learn a new recipe than be told about places to go out to eat.

I'm not a huge fan of Rachael Ray. I've seen her show 30 Minute Meals and I was given one of her cookbooks as a gift. The title is somewhat misleading. The cooking time might be 30 minutes, but a lot of her recipes require prep time before hand that makes them take more than 30 minutes. So, for a meat dish, you might be expected to trim the meat and cut it into pieces before you start cooking and the 30 minute timer.

I didn't like the format of her cookbook, either. Understandably, it was organized into meals, each of which required 30 minutes of cooking. It was very difficult to find, for example, all of the chicken entrees without reading the entire book. It just wasn't a good match for me.
