I miss the gym... - Jamieson Cobleigh

About I miss the gym...

Previous Entry I miss the gym... May. 28th, 2004 @ 06:23 am Next Entry
Being at a conference for a week has made me realize how much I enjoy going to the gym. The only exercise I get in Scotland is the 30 minutes walk from my hotel to the conference center, which I am quite grateful for since the hotel doesn't have any exercise equipment. This realization surprises me greatly.

In high school, my least favorite class was gym. I was never a physically active person. Since we had a choice of activities each quarter, I went out of my way to select activities that involved the least amount of sweating and avoided team sports if at all possible.

Now, I go to the gym five days a week. I lift weights and do aerobic exercise and find that I enjoy it. Before I left for Scotland, I weighed 165 pounds. I haven't weighed 165 pounds since I was in high school, 10 years ago.

Unfortunately, I have probably gained weight this week. Besides not getting as much exercise as usual, it has been difficult to find healthy food to eat. I get free breakfast at my hotel. While they have OJ and cereal, my normal breakfast, they only have whole milk. Lunch has been supplied by the conference and has been carbohydrate-heavy with cheese. The snacks at the conference are either butter cookies or shortbread. I actually miss eating vegetables. Hopefully, the farmshare reveilles and I have at Riverland Farm will start next week.

I need to get back into serious gym time... at least if I ever stop coming home from work after dark. (This wouldn't be an issue if it were winter and "dark" was 17:00... but it's almost high summer and "dark" is 20:15.)

Mmmm, vegetables.

I am leaving for a week in Sunnyvale right after you folks return to the Utter East and I just know that I am going to have issues. Fortunately the hotel has a gym (and free in-room broadband, woot, thank you Silicon Valley!).

There's also a non-zero chance that I may be dispatched to HK for two weeks. If that is the case I *WILL* be eating dim sum.

Yuck! I'm glad to hear that you are getting work, but I'm sorry to hear that you're working so late. Hopefully things will improve and become more balanced in the near future.

The only problem with the vegetables is that we will be getting some form of squash almost every week between now and the end of September. The last time I participated in this farmshare, I was so desperate to use the squash that I made a chocolate zucchini cake, which turned out surprisingly well.
