Yesterday was the Banquet for ICSE. There were two things that made it fun from a personal level.
First, I got to try haggis. This was something I wanted to do in Scotland, but didn't want to pay money to do. After tasting haggis, I will say that it is not something that I would order at a restaurant, but if I was served haggis, I would eat it. The other graduate student from my lab at the conference also tried the haggis. When we got back to our hotel room, I asked him if he tried the haggis. He said he did and that he liked it. I asked him if he knew what it was. He did not and I showed him the pages from my guidebook that describe haggis. His eyes got very big and said he wouldn't have tried it if he had known what it was.
Second, at the banquet, they had musical entertainment provided by three people on bagpipes and two on drums. There is something quite fun about bagpipes; not many instruments can continue to be played while you pause to let out a primal scream. After last night, I can now say that I have heard the song "Wild Thing" played on bagpipes.
