reveilles and I have enrolled in the Ashland Citizens' Police Academy. This is a 10 week course designed to teach us about how our local police department works. Wednesday night was week 3. Week 1 was mostly introduction and we got to tour the police station, week 2 was a talk from a local assistant district attorney on the legal system, and week 3 was 2 talks: one from a representative from the state crime lab on forensics and one from two local police officers on drug enforcement. I found the talk on drug enforcement very interesting. Besides learning a lot of scary statistics, they passed around evidence (sealed in bags) from closed cases so we actually got to see what marijuana, cocaine, crack, and heroin looks like.

Seriously, I knew from pictures, but there's something different about seeing things in person.

I had the same thought. How do you get to the age of 32 (HAW HAW!) and never have seen these?

And before anyone gets any ideas about my history, Mr. Lenard passed such things around on a plate in Grade 7 Health as part of a DARE thingy.
