About Spamalot

reveilles and I saw Monty Python's Spamalot on Thursday and we both really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, Tim Curry (King Arthur) was out on vacation for the week, so we saw his standby, John Bolton, who did an excellent job. Also, Hank Azaria from the original cast has left the show and Alan Tudyk has taken his place. Alan was wonderful as he did many accents in his roles as The French Taunter, The Knight Who Says Ni, and Tim the Enchanter.

They kept many of the familliar scenes from the movie, but made some updates that were very much in the spirit of Monty Python. Some of the new dialogue was absolutely hysterical.
  • Arthur: We have a quest! A quest to find the Grail!
  • Robin: A quail?
  • Arthur: The Grail, it's a cup.
  • Robin: Are you saying that God, the all powerful and all knowing, has misplaced a cup?
  • Arthur: No, it's a metaphor for the search for what's inside of us.
  • Robin: Someone swallowed it?
  • Arthur: No, it's a symbol.
  • A cymbal sounds from the orchestra
  • Arthur chops off the Black Knight's arms
  • Enter a monk
  • Monk: Alms for the poor.
  • Patsy puts the Black Knight's arms into the Monk's basket
  • Patsy: I'm half Jewish, on my mother's side.
  • Arthur: Why didn't you say so earlier?
  • Patsy: It's not the kind of thing you say around a heavily-armed Christian.
We waited after the show to get autographs from most of the stars, including David Hyde Pierce, Alan Tudyk, and Sara Ramirez.

Yes, Alan Tudyk. He was very nice at the stage door. As he signed my Playbill, I said "Go Browncoats" and he looked at me and smiled.
